WASSAN is a network-based organisation focusing on improving the quality of mainstream programs in natural resources management and livelihoods. It engages actively in policy advocacy initiatives at state and national level mainly related to rainfed agriculture. It also provides field level support services to a large number of watershed development and other programs implemented by the civil society in partnership with communities. Currently WASSAN has around 300 employees spread in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha and Jharkhand.

About the Project:
The project aims to strengthen local circular economy through supporting village enterprises and farmers’ institutions that provide critical backward and forward linkages for transition to Natural Farming and increase in farm incomes across three clusters in Satya Sai and Annamayya districts of Andhra Pradesh. The project scope includes eight themes, all which are centred in a Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) in the given cluster- establishing local seed system, bio-input enterprises, agriculture service centres, develop local commodity and fresh produce value chain, establish village enterprises in post -harvest management and primary processing, PGS organic certification and supporting FPOs.

Job Summary

The Project Anchor will be responsible for overseeing the overall management and technical support of the project. This role involves coordinating with thematic anchors and experts to ensure the regular preparation and updating of action plans for each theme. Ensuring robust, complete action plans that align with the project and organizational objectives is crucial. The Project Anchor will also focus on team capacity building, financial planning and monitoring, timely communication, and adherence to donor requirements.

Job description:
1. Coordinate with Thematic anchors and experts to ensure theme-wise Action plans are prepared (and updated) regularly.
2. Ensure action plans are robust and complete and are linked to theme-wise expenditure plans.
3. Ensure activities in each theme align to the overall project and organizational objective for the region.
4. Ensure clear SOPs are prepared and shared by experts in each theme.

5. Ensure team has relevant capacities and adhere to SOPs.
6. Responsible for overall financial planning, control and monitoring.
7. Responsible for preparation and consolidation of quarterly and monthly budgets.
8. Responsible for ensuring the thematic teams deliver commitments with respect to physical and financial achievements – immediately flag delays and work with teams to expedite progress.
9. Follow up with program, project support and Accounts team to ensure timely and proper submission and clearance of bills, payments as per best practices and organization norms.

10. Responsible for ensuring proper Project Communications covering project activities, achievements, impact, lessons; prepare reports and case studies as required.
11. Coordinate with illustrators, designers, video-makers for preparing relevant communication material and handle social media for the project.
12. Has to ensure robust, transparent and timely updation of Project MIS, serving the purpose of reporting as well as internal review and decision-making.
13. Travel extensively to the field sites of project implementation to ensure process hygiene, accuracy of reporting and feedback from the community.
14. Conduct weekly, monthly meetings and maintain the progress tracker.
15. Ensure all donor requirements with respect to reports, data, UCs, field visits and any others are met adequately and in time.

16. Assume greater role in execution with respect to at least two themes- preferably business development for village enterprises and Farmers’ institutions.

Desired Candidate Profile:
1. Candidates should have completed Post Graduation in one of the following disciplines- Business – Rural Management, Agri-Business Management, Social Sciences, Agriculture, Agriculture Economics or B-tech from reputed institutions.
2. Should be fluent in English, Hindi and Telugu.
3. Should be willing to relocate to Kadiri, Satya Sai District -Andhra Pradesh
4. Should have relevant work experience of at least 5 years -managing Development projects as part of CSOs, Govt./Non-Govt. agencies.
5. People with experience of working closely with Community Institutions- SHGs, FPOs at scale will be given preference.
6. Should have good communication and documentation skills.
7. Should be a team player and have the ability to lead the team.
8. Should possess strong technical skills- Excel, Power point, Project Management (preferable)

About Programme:
Strengthening Natural Farming Based Local Value Chains and enhancing Farm Incomes by supporting Community led Agri- business in Sri Satya Sai & Annamayya District, Andhra Pradesh. The objectives are –
– Making Natural Farming easy for small farmers by improving access to necessary farm inputs such as local and diverse seed , bio-inputs, appropriate agriculture equipment etc.
– Building capacities of Farmers’ Institutions to emerge as viable Agri-business institutions supporting a market ecosystem for natural farming commodity value chains
– Increasing farmer incomes through multiple strategies –cost savings on inputs and services, diverse crops –ensuring HH food security and savings on food expenses, promoting vegetable cultivation, realizing better prices through Village Trade centre and Organic certification
– Strengthening local circular economy by supporting different types of community-led enterprises – farm input supply, pre-and post harvest services , local processing, value addition, aggregation, sales etc.

Job Summary:
The Program Officer will collaborate with ground teams, community-based organizations (FPOs), and government officials to support the adoption of natural farming practices in production, processing, consumption, and marketing. Responsibilities broadly include managing project operations, stakeholder engagement, research, community engagement, data collection, and management, ecological initiatives, stakeholder coordination, supervision, documentation, site supervision, community awareness to name a few.

Job Description:
– Work along with the team at the ground, community-based organisations- FPOs and Government officials of line departments
– Support field staff, FPOs and NGOs on natural farming adoption in production, processing, consumption and marketing.
– Ensure training management, monitor regularly and provide handholding support.
– Responsible for daily project management – both organizational and substantive matters – budgeting, planning and general monitoring of the project.
– Responsible for conducting a monthly review of the program with the staff.
– Will be responsible for reporting on project progress vis-a-vis indicators to Program Manager

(a) Seed Production Planning:
– Develop and implement a comprehensive seed program which fits in CMSS foro RA & NF -includes collection, selection, multiplication and sales / exchange of seeds by FPOs
– Work closely with seed producers, farmers, seed centres, KVKs and Andhara State Seed Corporation, agricultural experts to ensure adequate seed production.

(b) Quality Assurance:
Place the seed quality ensuring mechanism at community and FPO level
– Establish and enforce quality control measures to ensure the production of certified and disease-free millet seeds.
– Conduct regular field inspections and germination test to maintain high-quality standards.
– Handholding support to FA, FPO and Seed Centres on working with seeds.

(c) Seed Distribution and Marketing:
– Coordinate the distribution of millet seeds to farmers, community managed seed centres, FPOs and agricultural extension agencies.
– Develop marketing strategies to promote Desi seeds and encourage their adoption among farmers with help of marketing team .

(d) Capacity Building:
– Preparing training modules and IECs and Organizing training programs and workshops for seed producers and farmers to enhance their knowledge of Desi seed production techniques.
– Provide technical guidance on seed collection, Crop Diversity blocks establishment, selections, multiplication, seed processing, sales and storage.

(d) Monitoring and Evaluation:
– Implement a robust monitoring and evaluation system to track seed production and marketing activities.
– Collect data and prepare reports on seed production and distribution progress.
– Stakeholder Engagement:
– Collaborate with government agencies, agricultural institutions, and NGOs to strengthen partnerships and support seed-related initiatives.
– Engage with seed farmers, community managed seed centres and FPOs to understand their needs and challenges.

(e) Research and Innovation:

– Stay updated on the latest developments reg seed systems.
– Explore innovative approaches to enhance seed quality and availability.
– Collaborate with interested ARS, KVKs and others.

(f) Community Engagement:
– Actively engage with local communities to raise awareness about sustainable agricultural practices and environmental conservation.

(g) Data Collection and Management:
– Collect, manage, and document relevant data to track project progress and outcomes.

(h) Ecological Supportive Activities:
– Execute ecological initiatives that promote sustainable farming practices and environmental preservation.

(i) Stakeholder Coordination:
– Collaborate with stakeholders, including farmers, government bodies, and NGOs, to ensure seamless project implementation.

(j) Supervision and Leadership:
– Provide supportive supervision to the field team, assign duties, and responsibilities, and maintain regular communication.

(l) Documentation and Reporting:
– Prepare presentations, survey reports, protective irrigation plans, and other project-related documents. Provide monthly updates on target achievements. Also prepare basic Google earth maps and GIS maps.

(k) Site Supervision:
– Oversee site construction in adherence to approved designs and drawings.

(n) Community Awareness:

Desired Candidate Profile:
– Master’s degree from reputed National / International Institution / University, with minimum 1 year of experience working with Central and State Government agencies or Bachelor’s degree with 5 years relevant experience Bachelor’s (Agriculture) with 5 years of relevant experience
– B.Sc (Agriculture) and Master’s in Agribusiness with 3 years’ relevant experience / M.Sc. (Agriculture) with 3 years’ relevant experience.
– Experience of working with NGOs and Government officials.
– Proficient computer skills in MS Office; knowledge of Gantt charts, indicator preparation, and basic knowledge in budgeting and accounts

The Horticulture Expert will play a pivotal role in promoting and enhancing vegetable farming practices at the village level. They will work closely with farmers, groups, and organizations, providing guidance, training, and support to improve crop yield, quality, and sustainable farming practices.

Job Responsibilities:
(a) Engagement and Training:
• Conduct village-level meetings to educate and promote vegetable cultivation among farmers.
• Establish and support commodity-specific groups, providing guidance on crop management and cultivation techniques.

(c) Capacity Building:
• Conduct crop demonstrations emphasizing water use efficiency and best agricultural practices under natural farming.

(d) Research and Development:

Programme Manager (Institution Building)

Period of Contract:
The contract will be for a period of 2 year, renewable for another 2 years subject to satisfactory performance and project period extension. The engagement can be cancelled / terminated for any non-performance in duties, misconduct or without assigning any reason thereof with one month of notice.

Job Description:
The Programme Officer will have to:
1. Anchor overall FPO agenda and oversee FPO team of WASSAN in Odisha.
2. Ensuring compliance with clients on the work related to FPOs.
3. Timely Review and monitoring of the FPO initiatives taken up under the different projects.
4. Develop and Maintain the FPO MIS of projects undertaken by WASSAN in Odisha. Ensuring timely updating of MIS of FPOs by concerned project teams.
5. Tracking the basics of compliances and registration by concerned project teams.
6. Coordinate the Capacity building of team members working on FPOs by sourcing expertise internally and externally.
7. Tracking institution building activities and setting up proper governance systems in FPOs.
8. Standardise the project design templates and business plan templates for different activities in each project from sustainability point of view.
9. Develop proposals for FPOs for better credit linkages with Government schemes, public/private banks and public/private credit agencies including NBFCs.
10. Maintaining the repository for all business plans, checklists, latest FPO policies of state and central government, etc.
11. Planning for suitable capital investment for FPOs as per need assessment.
12. Oversee the studies/internships/fellowships related to FPOs in the projects anchored by WASSAN.
13. Overseeing any pilots/innovations involving FPOs by the WASSAN project teams.

Desired Candidate Profile:
Candidate must possess:
1. Master’s or bachelor’s with at least 5 yrs. experience in Social Work/Social Entrepreneurship/Business Administration/Business Management/Agri-business Management/ Agriculture Economics/Rural Development / Other relevant degree.
2. Demonstrable experience in engaging with CSOs/NGOs and social dynamics of CBOs/FPOs.
3. Demonstrable experience in business development, marketing programmes/initiatives with CBOs / FPOs / SHGs along with the potential and attitude required to learn.
4. Demonstrable experience/knowledge on policies/laws/loan process/credit process related to FPOs/CBOs shall be preferred.
5. Demonstrable experience in bankable proposal development shall be preferred.
6. Experience in community mobilisation with WSHGs/FPOs.
7. Experience in project management and networking with policy and research institutes shall be preferred.
8. Knowledge in financial management, business analytics, calculations, business projections and overall business development will be an added advantage.
9. Should have excellent reading, speaking and report writing skills in Odiya and English mandatorily. Working language of Hindi will be added advantage.
10. Should be willing to travel extensively on field in all seasons. Should have two-wheeler for mobility.
11. Candidates with proven experience on working and learning on their own will be preferred.
