Our Board Trustees

Governing board provides oversight and counsel to WASSAN. It comprises up to five independent members with distinguished records of public service and three leaders from WASSAN, including the executive director.

Jagadananda

Chairperson

Shri Jagadananda is a Social Activist and Civil Society Leader. Earlier, he was State Information Commissioner, Odisha and a Member in State Planning Board of Odisha; He is the President of the National Social Watch (NSW); held offices as Chairperson, Voluntary Action Network India (VANI), the largest national network of social development agencies in India, Chair of Credibility Alliance, a national forum for promotion of accountability norms for Civil Society Organizations; currently the Chair of Sa-Dhan, a national network of Community Development Micro Finance Institutions with wide membership spread across the country.

Gagan Sethi

Trustee

Shri Gagan Sethi is a development educator and practising Organizational Development expert and a Gender trainer. As founder of Janvikas, he has helped set up several strategic organizations in the country, like Kutch MahilaVikasSangathan, Sahjeevan, Drishti, Centre for Social justice, HID forum to name a few. He was appointed as member of monitoring group by NHRC to monitor human right violations. His professional expertise lies in Human and institutional development training and designing.

GV Venugopala Sarma

Trustee

Shri. G V Venugopala Sarma joined IAS in 1986. He worked in Wokha, Mon and Kohima districts of Nagaland before shifting to Odisha. He served in National Institute of Rural Development, Hyderabad, in Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India and later in National Disaster Management Authority. His assignments in Odisha included ST&SC Development, Women and Child Development, Higher Education and land administration. He was a member of an Expert Group constituted by Government of India in 2001 on prevention of tribal land alienation. He was Member-Secretary of Task Force on disaster management constituted by Government of India in 2011.

Ashwini Kulkarni

Trustee

Smt Ashwini Kulkarni belongs to the Civil Society organisation Pragati Abhiyan based in Nashik. She has been associated with rural poverty related programmes for two decades. Pragati Abhiyan works with tribal villages of Nashik district and is also involved in research and policy work.

P. Balaram

Trustee

Shri. P. Balaram has 42 years of leadership experience in community rights, Institutions, Common land development, participatory water management, etc. He graduated from Government Arts College, Anantapuram, with an MA in Sociology in Distance Education. After he gained experience working for the Young India Project between 1979 and 1999, he established the Jana Jagruti. The first 20 years of his career, he spent organizing agricultural workers into unions to fight for minimum wages, employment, other social benefits etc. He was involved in several programs, including watershed development, Common lands regeneration, water and sanitation, hygiene education, soil health, sustainable agriculture etc. Additionally, he is a member of a network of NGOs called Anantha Paryavarana Parirakshana Samithi (APPS) at the district level. This network is actively involved in joint Common land development in the Anantapuram district. He is actively implementing Community Managed Seed System (CMSS) with the support of the WASSAN, Department of Agriculture, Government of Andhra Pradesh. He is one of the trustees for the WASSAN organization Hyderabad.

K. Suresh

Trustee

Shri K. Suresh, associated with WASSAN Group of Institutions for several years. And agriculturist by profession, but his passion is in children’s literature. Founded ‘Manchi Pustakam’, a trust to publish, and promoting children’s literature and popular science books.

Our Team

WASSAN’s work is organized in multiple locations on multiple themes at multiple levels, each staff member of the organization is expected to work/ coordinate with several other staff members of the organization, are working in our project locations, immersing themselves directly with target communities across seven of the states. They are recruited from universities and hold degrees in subjects like management, engineering, agriculture and the social sciences.
